Life in Los Angeles in 1878

In today's class I read a newspaper from 1878 published by the Los Angeles Herald. I learned that in many ways that newspaper of today are much the same, in topics. The newspaper talked about the local crimes that were going on in Los Angeles and also any other incidents in the town. I learned that after the Civil War the republican party was the most popular. Also I learned that Los Angeles went through depression for years. The newspaper talked about local money of businesses as well. The murdering of a colored man was published as if it was right thing to do.
